Welcome Home!

Founded in 1962, Bogey Hills Country Club (BHCC) is a third-generation, family-owned private country club with the Walters family at the helm. Here at Bogey Hills Country Club, we bring friends and families together in a relaxed, social atmosphere where there is something for everyone.
BHCC has endured because of its unwavering commitment to our members! We pride ourselves on our dedication to evolve with the modern world, while always maintaining and respecting the Club’s rich history and founding morals. With that being said, our membership is made up of diverse, fun, friendly, and engaging individuals. Forget the pretentious country club perception; we are real and committed to authentic relationships and premier service.

Bogey Hills Country Club exists to bring interpersonal connection back with opportunities to network, refresh, play, and make long-lasting friendships. There’s a quote by Jim Henson that reads, “There’s not a word yet for old friends who’ve just met” and we believe there’s no better way to describe the relationships established at Bogey. When you join as a member, you are treated like an old friend by not only our staff, but by the people that enjoy calling Bogey Hills their home away from home.

Bogey Hills’ rich history is a story worth sharing. Learn more about what makes us unique and our journey to where we are today.

Wayne Clark and Doc worked together to build the first 9 holes of the course. After a year of hard work on the grounds and clubhouse, a 9-hole course opened on Memorial Day, May 30, 1962. Doc Walters, Paul Walters, Al Cohen and Earl Renken are bestowed the honor of being first to christen the new par 34 layout of Bogey Hills.

In 1964 the course became semi-private with 78 members. To keep expenses to a minimum, Doc had utilized all the Board members to help in club operations. Each were assigned a green to care for as well as taking turns tending bar. Doc also approached the membership with a proposal that would include a swimming pool, which then created the Social membership.

The first clubhouse renovation took place in 1968. This addition included larger restrooms, bar and lounge area, distinct dance floor, new pro shop, locker rooms and club storage.

In 1970-1971 Doc began talks with Mrs. Hackman to purchase the land from the creek to the end of her property (14 fairway and maintenance area). After a year of negotiations, the land purchase was finalized.

As the club improved and grew its membership it was time to make Bogey an 18-hole golf course. Denny (Doc’s son) and Wayne Clark laid out the plans for the additional 9-holes. This involved changing the hole numbering on the original 9-holes. For example, the original fifth hole would be the eighteenth hole, with the sixth hole now being the tenth, and the fourth hole is now seventeen. Eventually the lake was added on hole 18 to make it more challenging to golfers and to create a beautiful view from the clubhouse. During this time the clubhouse renovated the kitchen and dining areas as well as card rooms and expanded the locker rooms

On March 1, 1980 Bogey Hills became a fully private facility. As such it underwent several more updates during the 1980’s with the final being 1989-1990. The kitchen was expanded, a new façade was constructed, a new deck on the back was added for outdoor seating. The golf shop and snack bar areas were enlarged as well as the current swimming pool. An automated irrigation system was installed on the golf course to provide full coverage on all 18-holes. The practice range was also added in the mid 80’s adjacent to the third fairway with the last construction being the cart building. These were the last of the building renovations that added any square footage to the Clubhouse.

Unfortunately, Doris Walters passed away in April 1993.  Doc remained President of the Board and Dennis Walters became the General Manager. This remained until Doc passed away in December 2001 at the age of 80. In keeping with family tradition, Angel Walters, daughter of Dennis Walters, became the membership director in 2002. Angel worked her way up through the Club ranks through hard work and dedication. In 2008 Dennis Walters stepped down as the General Manager and passed it on to Angel Walters. Dennis remained President of the Club. Denny Walters Jr., son of Dennis Walters, started working in the golf shop and worked hard at the game of golf, especially on the teaching side. He became a certified PGA instructor and is currently the head teaching professional.

On February 16, 2017 Angel Walters Likens received a call from the alarm company stating that fire alarms were going off at the club. She pulled out of her garage and saw the flames coming out of the lounge area. Unfortunately, the club was a complete loss. Just hours after the fire, Angel, Denny and Dennis started discussions with Board members about rebuilding the Clubhouse. Committees of the building, insurance, and design were formed to help expedite the process. Demolition was completed by Bogey’s lifelong member Gene Glosier. Ultimately the Board chose Brinkmann Constructors to be the builder as well as TRI, Architects and Hint Harris design firm. Even though there was no Clubhouse golf still was ongoing thru the entire build process. A temporary Clubhouse was built on the first tee and Bogey memories were still being made.

The new clubhouse essentially used the same footprint; however, it was a complete rebuild. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on August 2, 2017 where the new plans were revealed.  St. Charles City Mayor, Sally Faith, was in attendance and spoke about being Pro Bogey. Nine months later, on May 14, 2018 Bogey Hills had the ribbon cutting ceremony with the Greater St. Charles Chamber of Commerce. The new Clubhouse brought new amenities to the Bogey members such as a fitness room, Kids Club, casual dining, pool bar, and golf simulators. From management to lifelong members and staff Bogey Hills is a Family!
